Opal was a band in the mid 80's and were part of the Paisley Underground scene. Originally called Clay Allison, the band featured David Roback, Kendra Smith and Keith Mitchell. Happy Nightmare Baby was the band's first full-length album. Hope Sandoval joined the band shortly after and they became Mazzy Star/5(19). Reply

At once drowsy, psychedelic, entrancing, and possessed of a sinuous spark, Happy Nightmare Baby may have been Opal 's only album but deserves more attention than merely being a blueprint for Roback 's later work in Mazzy Star.8/ Reply

referencing Happy Nightmare Baby, LP, Album, Blu, SST I have a copy of this - it is blue but only if sunlight shines through it and if you bring a lot of good will and fantasy. it is about as blue as black is blue. just saying in case somebody here is about to spent a fortune and ends up a bit dissapointed. i also have a grey marbled copy. If you're familiar with David Roback and Rain Parade and Mazzy Star, you'll like this even more. It's actually my favorite Roback album that I've heard, and I love Mazzy. If you're not aware of Roback, but like trippy, psychedelic, mellow rock to smoke fine tobacco to, get this. Oh yeah, "Happy Nightmare Baby" is one of the best songs ever/5(19). Reply

The group’s opus, “Happy Nightmare Baby,” will not include any bonus tracks, but a compilation of earlier material called, naturally enough, “Early Recordings,” will include five extra. Reply

Happy Nightmare Baby is the debut album by the American band Opal, released in by SST Records in America and Rough Trade Records in England. It was the only album released by the band while together, singer Kendra Smith leaving during the tour to promote it, to be replaced by Hope Sandoval, the band evolving into Mazzy Star. Reply
